Making the Christmas-lagterta

Every year my mother and Daníel make this traditional Icelandic cake which has a few different names, like randalína, vínarterta and lagterta.
They make the white version but we also buy the brown one with buttercream.  Other Icelandic cakes include kleinur and ástarpungar.
