She Never Makes a Scene....

This photo was taken, maybe 10, or 11 years ago.

for three years, we went on holiday to a little Island off the Coast of Scotland -

Himself had visited the Island once, as a 15 year old, with his family - nearly lost his thumb chopping wood, and helped work on the farm with the owners of the island for the duration of the holiday.

We had been browsing the adverts in The Lady Magazine when he remembered it, and we looked it up.

And there is was "The Isle Of Shuna"  It was still there, and the very house he stayed in was still available for rent.

No Electricity.  No Cars.   No Roads.  no Phones.

Sounds ideal huh?

I have to admit, that the days before we left, I was absolutely papping myself   How was I going to cope.

But cope we did.   And love it we did.   The gas lamps, (always something which scared me as a child, almost as much as cyber men), the brown tap water.  The little tin landing boats we sat in to fish and catch our tea.  The jigsaws we did .the Walking we did, the laughing we did.  The dolphins we watched, the otters we saw, the deer, the sheep, the whirlpools, the Minks!!!

It was beautiful.  The lack of electricity, roads, and cars bothered us not a jot.

It bothered us so much, that the only thing that has put us off going back, was that they had built a new "boat house" for rent, a mere 200 yards from "our" house.

And we felt that maybe that would bring people a little too close.

But I keep this picture  - the front door - which was always unlocked.  With our boots, our chairs for the campfire; the saw and the axe for our wood chopping (for the fire) and the fishing rods. for our tea.
