James Clerk Maxwell

At the time the Royal Society of Edinburgh wished to erect a new statue of James Clerk Maxwell on George Street the council were removing statues in order to rerouted buses while Princes Street was prepared for the new tram system. In the meantime they created a hologram of the statue, which is displayed as a mirror in the Maxwell room at the Society's premises.
The statue was eventually erected at the east end of George Street, he is displayed with his dog Toby at his feet.

We enjoyed a guided tour around the Society, where portraits of many eminent scientists are displayed; James Clerk Maxwell's is in extra photo 1. In passing I was able to photograph an informal display of busts (extra 2), from left to right:-
Napier, Playfair, Berzelius, Cuvier, Gregory, Scott and Hutton.
