Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Istanbul

"The Rahmi M. Koç Museum is a private industrial museum in Istanbul, Turkey dedicated to history of transport, industry and communications. Rahmi M. Koç, member of the wealthiest dynasty in Turkey and retired boss of the Koç Group, founded the museum in 1991, which was opened on December 13, 1994."  Wikipedia

Just Absolutely Fabulous. On the Bosphorus shores in the Beyoğlu district, and easily my favourite museum, this wonderful collection of land, air and sea transport and much more, once again knocked me for six with its wondrousness.  Antique, veteran, classic, quirky, famous, infamous, steam, petrol, diesel, electric, horse and bovine powered transport and industrial machines in a beautifully laid out, completely spotless site including boats in dry dock and ships and even a submarine in the Bosphorus, aircraft in the carpark, trains and trams in sidings and an astonishing collection of artefacts with wheels indoors including those displayed in context as an imaginary indoor scenes of bygone times. Oh and they are kind to cats too, and there are several who are living a lovely life here. There's even a warning road sign in the car park (extra).  Of course it's impossible to resist taking a gazillion photos, and I sent several pics to my bro of Harley Davidsons, Lambrettas and this main picture showing his fav Jaguar and behind it, the Ford Anglia used in the second Harry Potter film.

So hard to choose just one photo, so I am including some extras. Firstly, all standing in front of the London bus No 52 with all the kids I was chaperoning - the one my grandmother will have used to go shopping from Mill Hill to Burnt Oak (and my blip last year when visiting this museum with a different group of kids - here). Also a view of the some of the boats as seen from next to the deck of one very large boat in dry dock, that also shows what wonderful blue skies we were enjoying; some veteran cars and a couple that demonstrate the significance of cats - typical Istanbul. For the rest, I can only suggest that you put this wonderful place on your 'Must do' list when visiting Istanbul. Currently rates #9 on Trip Advisor for 'Things to do in Istanbul' - but I would put it higher than that.

The day was of course all the more wonderful for the brilliant sunshine and clear blue skies - though it was chilly wandering about amongst the outside exhibits and during the short but jolly fun fifteen minute narrow gauge train ride that we all enjoyed. The kids were perfect as they have been on every weekend trip that I have chaperoned them.

A glorious day.

Still not sure I've made the right choice for main pic - might swap about later....
