Smokey 1606 hr (Thursday 6th December 2018)

After yesterday's outings, today I got on with a lot of outstanding chores, notably and time consumingly transferring my internet connection to fibre broadband and setting up a new hub. This was made more complicated as the new hub only has two ethernet sockets whereas the old one had four, all in use, and the engineer was updating the box at the exchange at the exact moment I was trying to update the password and settings on my iPad, causing no end of frustration and confusion. I think it's all working now but I'll need a new five-way switch in my study to restore the connections to some remaining devices.

Smokey kept a watchful eye on proceedings. I've added an Extra of him too.

Mann Holiner and Alberta Nichols wrote this for Ethel Waters to record in 1932, but the lyrics were revised by Sammy Cahn and Saul Chaplin a little later, and the saxophonist Slim Freeman's name werer also added to the composer credits. It's become a bit of a standard, and many have covered it including Dean Martin. Sandy Denny recorded it for her album Like An Old Fashioned Waltz in 1973, but the album sat on a shelf until late in 1974, and I played the album this afternoon.
