FIRST POSTING

I pass this photo several times a day when I'm at Mum's and never look at it properly. It's Dad's first posting after he was called up into the RAF (he's left of middle in the third row back, slightly highlighted). He was 25 and his military service had been deferred until he finished his medical qualifications, by which time he was married and I was nearly two years old. Anyone older than Dad in this photo would have served in World War 2 (he was 17 when it ended, thank goodness), and looking at the names underneath there is an impressive collection of decorations, DSO, DFC, AFC and others. Dad stayed on in the Service for another 35 years.

I'm back at home now and trying to catch up.
