Nicky and her Nikon

St Katharine Docks

Today I was booked to go on a Nikon photo walk from St Katharine Docks (Wapping) to Limehouse. However the forecast was for heavy rain and cold weather so I set off from home a bit reluctantly. We all met at Tower Hill and then walked east along the north side of the River Thames. It was foggy with really dull light, but when we got to St Katharine Docks, there were some lovely reflections on the water. For a moment as the fog lifted we got a momentary glimpse of blue sky, when this image was taken, but it is not indicative of the day which remained lead coloured sky and dull light.

We walked through Wapping, it has been redeveloped with some very upmarket apartment blocks with wide terraces giving fantastic views over the river. As we reached Shadwell Basin it started raining, but by now it was lunch time so we went to the pub where we had a booking for lunch. The pub, The Prospect of Whitby, is the oldest riverside pub in London, dating back to 1520 and has had some very famous guests, including Samuel Pepys.

After lunch it was still raining with very poor light so a few of us decided to call it a day and headed back to the tube station to go home. It was a good day out and I saw a part of London that I have not visited before.
