Granada Cathedral
Our outing in Granada was in the afternoon,* briefly to the Albaicin--the Arab quarter of the city--and then to the Capilla Real and the Cathedral. The Capilla Real (Royal Chapel) is the mausoleum where Isabella I and Ferdinand II are interred. But it also houses impressive art works, which were the main object of our visit.
The Cathedral adjoins the chapel. It is huge; I found it impressive in its simplicity, but it definitely has its very ornate, Spanish elements--such as those in this view from the middle of the nave (from the end this looks almost miniature). Do view it large--what amused me most were are the cherubs with horns on the sides of the double-sided organ (clearest on the left). In the center is a closed area under restauration.
*On our morning expedition we used a credit card to pick up our tickets for the Alhambra (tomorrow) at a bank, but forgot to take the card. When we rushed back the credit card was nowhere to be found, so we then rushed back to our apartment to call and cancel it (: By then it was 12:30 and since everything closes from 1:00 to 4:00 pm we just stayed and had lunch in the apartment.
But going back we took the # 34 bus which makes a long circuit from close to our apartment up to the Alhambra and then back down to the city center, near the Arab quarter and the cathedral. A very inexpensive tour. So it was altogether a very good day :)
