Walking the wall

Today involved a trip back to Hadrian‘s wall with my brother and two sisters. After walking a section, we headed off to Vindolanda and wandered around the garrison fort and museum. I visited the museum two years ago but there was plenty more to see and the writing tablets remain one of the great wonders of British archaeology. Like the sandals (see extra) they owe their remarkable preservation to the soil conditions.
