Today is Black Friday but it is actually more like Grey Friday - I did see a sign in a fashion store window saying 'Grey is the new black'. Well that certainly was the case today, it was dull, grey and all the colour seemed to be sucked out of the day. The trees are starting to look like winter trees now, and this winter scene seemed to suit how the day felt.
It is a day of two halves - a sad day as it is the two year anniversary of when my mother died. It does not feel like it was two years ago, and I still miss her and often want to pick up the phone and speak to her.
The other half of the day has been good news - last night at Parent's Evening an email pinged through from UCAS and Thomas received another university offer (to Durham University) which he was delighted about. Then today he finally received notification that he has an interview at Cambridge University. We have been waiting with baited breath all week for that notification as the interviews are selective and not everyone gets an interview. Of course this is only a very, very small step forward as after the interviews the 'culling' intensifies and only very few candidates get offers! But at least he will get the chance to be interviewed, as he has been preparing for it for weeks now.
Tonight is the end of term Symphony Concert - the program is Vaughn Williams Symphony No. 5 and Walton's Crown Imperial. It should be good - sadly our second to last symphony concert :(
