Wide Wednesday . . . Environmental Portrait
This afternoon Annabel and I had a wander through the rose gardens at Broadgreen House. There are over 3000 plants and it was almost overwhelming with the variety of colours. It was windy and the scent of roses would waft around us. The garden was opened in 1968. Rose nurseryman Jim Samuels said Nelson grew the best roses in the world. He encouraged the Nelson City Council to buy the historic Broadgreen house and establish the garden. He donated rose stock and bud wood. It was a paddock to begin with and now it is a treasure for the city. The house was built in 1855 and is an example of early colonial cob construction.
Following this we went to Stoke for coffee and discovered a cute gift shop and did some Xmas retail therapy.
In extras is a collage of Valerie the doll on canvas. It arrived by courier this morning. Gotta love internet printing.
