Brighton marina

The views from our bedroom balcony this morning. In the top picture you can see Brighton Pier in the distance. The bottom picture is the view directly opposite our room. It cannot be seen in my picture, but the largest UK wind farm is in the sea on the horizon.

After we had checked out of the hotel, we met up with friends who live part of the week in their house in Rottingdean just a couple of miles from Brighton. We had a bracing walk along the sea promenade. Although cold it was bright and sunny.

Our first visit to Rottingdean and it's a lovely thriving village with lots of historical connections. Rudyard Kipling lived there for about seven years and there are some beautiful walled gardens that are open and free to visit.
A gallery, museum and library is housed in the late family home of the artist William Nicholson.
The pre-Raphaelite artist and designer Edward Burne-Jones had a holiday house there and he and his wife's ashes are interred in a corner of the churchyard of St Margarets Church. In this church are a number of stained glass windows designed by him.

Our friends' house is at the foot of the Sussex Downs overlooked by the windmill. From their back door is a footpath that leads through fields to the village and the sea . Perfection.
