Porcelain Fungus
Yesterday it was a lovely sunny afternoon so we went for a walk from Oswestry Racecourse. We do a few walks from there but this one we always call "The Porcelain Fungus walk" as there are a line of trees that have the fungus growing high on the trunks.
When we got to the trees they'd been chopped down! Most of them were chopped into rounds but I found one awaiting this fate that still had some of the fungus on. Getting a decent shot did involve wet trousers though!
As this fungus grows on dying or dead beech trees it's a sign that it's days are numbered so it should have been no surprise. It's always sad to see the disappearance of landmark trees though.
Porcelain Fungus is an attractive one covered in shiny slime, it's edible although I've never tried eating it.
