Beautiful day for a protest
The smoke blew off somewhere to the east. I made many photos today, but I chose this one to blip because it features three people I very much admire. The speaker standing on the bench is Alyssa, who identifies herself as a Puerto Rican Trans Woman; her sign language interpreter is Jett Butterworth; and the reporter seated next to Alyssa on the bench is my great Friend (he always capitalizes that word), journalist Pete Shaw.
Here's the description of the event: "The alt-right is trying to silence survivors, erase trans identities, control the bodies of women and people of color, and criminalize families and individuals seeking safety. WE ARE ALL SURVIVORS. As Audre Lorde said, "there is no such thing as a single issue struggle". People are suffering multiple attacks because they belong to more than one targeted group. We are stronger when we stand together and lift up all of our voices." I agree heartily with that last sentence.
