In the Alcazar of Jerez
After 6 visits to this town we finally got to visit. What took us so long - a beautiful example of Islamic architecture and gardens in Moorish Spain at a time when Islamic learning science and scholarship was way ahead of benighted Christian Europe. How and why things went into reverse is a bit of a mystery. The Alcazar dates back to the 11th century but mostly constructed in the 12th and 13th. It was captured by the Christians in 1261 considerably earlier than the final expulsion of the Moors. But given they ruled Spain for around 700 years, you could say they never really left given how much of their legacy remains.
