All Those Men Who Marched Away
This evening about 75 boys from the Glasgow Cambiata choir marked the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, accompanied by the RSNO, by rendering a very moving cantata about 'All Those Men Who Marched Away', by Ken Johnston and Jim Maxwell. First the boys and young men were full of the joy of adventure going to war with their mates but optimistic that they would be home by Christmas. They felt proud to be Kitchener’s Men and to be supporting their country before the awful realisation that war was horrific. Finally they sang of the agony of remembering those who had been killed. It was all the more poignant knowing that the majority of the school students were the same age as the young soldiers and I even noticed some boys wiping away tears.
The seat is at Waverley Station in Edinburgh.
