Cedar Valley

We went to the most wonderful place today.
The Cedar Valley in the Troodos mountains holds nearly the entire world population of the beautiful indigenous cedar Cedrus brevifolia. It reaches 30m and can live to 500 years old or more. The trees have no powers of regeneration after a fire and so the forest is very vulnerable. We climbed to the top of the mountain to a fire lookout post, where there is a phenomenal view down into this secluded valley, deep in the heart of the mountains with not a man made sound to be heard. It was a real privilege to visit such a unique site.
