Lunt Meadows

A morning trip to Lunt Meadows, near the village of Sefton north of Liverpool. It is a flood storage area adjoining the River Alt, managed as a nature reserve by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust. Before 2012 it was just agricultural land.

In the blip I have the reserve behind me. I am looking over a field planted with a winter crop. To the left a large flock of pink footed geese are feeding, wary of us but not too concerned. This was the first of two large flocks that we saw. Their contant chatter makes them easy to locate.

Lots of lapwings and water birds. And some dedicated birders staking our the reedbed for bearded tits (which are not tits at all).
