The C Word

I think I must be sickening for something. Let me explain. There was once a time in the mists of my earlier life that I made three or four small Christmas cakes every year to give away over the festive period. I turned them out like a production line; I may even have coated them with marzipan and icing. Since then I have seen the light and been more than happy to buy Christmas cakes from Lidl which were guaranteed not to have soggy middles and cost less than the sum total of ingredients needed for home made ones.

There is no rhyme or reason therefore, other than a rush of blood to my head, for the sudden urge to make one this year. Because I no longer remember which trusty recipe I used so long ago, today has been spent mixing and matching all the different recipes lurking in my recipe box before I devote time and effort to actually fulfilling this cake urge. Time will tell if the result is worth it.

There was a little light relief this afternoon when I had coffee with a cycling friend and noticed these pumpkins. It reminded me that I have a sneaky plan to wait until any unsold pumpkins are going for almost nothing and I can make some tasty pumpkin bread.
