Across the miles!
Thursday
Today, Thanksgiving Day, one of the things I'm very thankful for is the technology which enabled us to Skype with our youngest daughter Laura, who is serving in Macedonia with the Peace Corps. This is her second Thanksgiving away from home, as last year she was student teaching in Belize in Central America. Unfortunately I couldn't spend long sitting and chatting myself as I was busy in the kitchen preparing the turkey dinner, but they were in the dining room, just adjacent, and I could hear the happy chatter whilst I was working. The picture shows our eldest daughter Jen and her husband Jason in front of the screen, while Roger was of to the side. It was a beautiful sunny and mild day, but unfortunately it was late afternoon before we had finished our dinner and done a little clearing up, and were able to get out and enjoy it. Jason stayed in to get on with some grading, so it was just the three of us again. The plan was to go biking at Otto Armleder Park and take the connector trail to the Lunken Airport trail, but when we got down there, Roger made a sad discovery - he had left the front seat and rear handle bars of the tandem back in the garage! Our garage isn't terribly wide, so he takes the handlebars (which are attached to the front seat) off for storing, and since we were in a hurry to get out before we lost the light, he forgot! So we ended up walking, while Jen rode! In the evening we went to the movie theater to watch Life of Pi, based on Yann Martel's Booker Prize-winning novel. It's a visually stunning film, and made a great evening's entertainment. There's so many great-sounding movies just coming out or about to come out. We had actually planned on seeing the latest James Bond, but discovered Jen and Jason had already seen it! So we have that one to see, then I also want to see Abraham Lincoln, Anna Karenina, The Hobbit and Les Miserables which opens here on Christmas Day!
