Everyday I Write The Book

Blue and Gold

That’s a sunny autumn day for you.

We took a laid back approach after all our hard work on the streets of London yesterday. Did manage to go into town to buy some socks. I like buying socks. There is something nurturing about looking after your feet, particularly when you’ve been marching in defence of democracy and European ideals. But joking aside the next couple of weeks will be torrid politically. I can’t see this ending well for anyone in Westminster, let alone the ordinary person in the street. Rather like a sunny autumn day that conceals the chill winds to come, Brexit will hit us and leave us chilled in some way. There will be a lot to feel blue about and not much gold to share.

To be honest if we can’t have no Brexit I wonder if we shouldn’t have a hard one just to make the consequences stark and avoid year upon year of wrangling at every twist and turn. Johnson, Farage, Gove, Rees-Mogg and Davis - all should have to take the harsh judgement that history will surely heap upon them as the social and economic costs tumble down from the summit of our Brexit mountain. But I really dont know what will happen. You’d be brave to make predictions at this point.

Every day I look back on the blip from a year ago. This has generally been an amusing pastime but with Brexit I suspect the retrospect will become a more painful and poignant affair ...
