Sunny Sunday...
...and warm, record warm. Up to around +18°C around here, but over 20 in large area north of us. The new October record temperature in Finland is now +21.0°C. It was measured in Kronoby, on the coast almost 300 km north.
To enjoy the weather, we (me and Triinu) decided to go somewhere we haven't been before. We chose Pirunvuori in Sastamala. It's next to Ellivuori ski resort and hotel where I have had a meeting once and admired the scenery.
The good things started as soon as we got to the main road. There were Roe Deer (mother and two calves, though I didn't get them all in the same shot) on the neighbour's field. A quick stop to get a few photos of them (one in extra #1), before we drove on.
Next stop was Pirunvuori (Devil's Mountain), or actually the Ellivuori hotel parking lot, where the path to the mountain (*) starts. Before reaching the top we had to pass a very rocky area, pirunpelto (devil's field, in the extra #2). The view from the top is the main blip.
After some time at the top admiring the view and the gorgeous weather, we visited the cave near the top. According to the old myths, the devil lived there and stole food from nearby cellars which were connected to the cave. According to one story, a dog went into the cave and came out old and grey in Laukko, 30 kilometres east. The cave can be seen left of the small spruce in the middle of the extra #3. The boulder right of it is quite impressive.
On the way home, we drove via the beautiful landscapes of Hämeenkyrö. The ever fabulous berry fields of Mahnala in the extra #4, a view from Sarkkila bird tower in the extra #5.
* "Mountains" in this part of Finland wouldn't qualify as mountains in most parts of the world. Actually they are just hills.
