Bring on the weekend.

A slow day in the office today. Main highlight came in the evening, when we went to the closing ceremony of the cultural expo at Amahoro stadium. Unfortunately, this coincided with the moment that my camera battery packed in, and thus the songs, dances, and particularly the music groups, went unrecorded. I particularly enjoyed the opening act, an Afro-Reggae group called the Jah Doves, whose lead singer looked like he was rocking to a whole stadium, not just a couple of hundred folks in white plastic chairs. Another highlight was the fashion show, which featured one model in heels so impossibly tall that she frequently wobbled; the crowd (myself included) were highly amused. Maribel escaped at one point and accosted both Miss Rwanda and the Minister for Culture, both of whom thankfully were quite accommodating.

As it is, most of my photos show artwork from around the centre, all of which is made from recycled material and sold. The centre provides training, helps people market goods like jewellery and baskets, and helps set up cooperatives so people can make a sustainable income. This is a portrait on the wall that I particularly enjoyed.
