St John's in the Vale

Realising we had a rapidly approaching family birthday we made an impromptu dash to Hayes at Ambleside.  The journey turned out to be a little longer than we anticipated.

I turned into St John's in the Vale as I always do only to find the road closed because of flooding.  So back on the A66 and round by Keswick.  This is a road we rarely travel so seeing the clouds round Knowe Crags and Blencathra we pulled into a lay-by.  A few quick shots and we were on our way.

Not being in the habit of going to garden centres at weekend we were braced for the place being absolutely packed.  What a pleasant surprise, everybody must have thought it would be packed and stayed away.  The café was almost empty.

Christmas had arrived in full force, decorations everywhere.  I do at times wonder how long it will be until some garden centres don't sell any plants at all.   However it still proved to be a very pleasant afternoon.
