French Delitghts

Delighted to find this stall in the market today and be able to catch up with Pascal . . . or better known to his customers in Romsey and around the South as Johnnie the Onion Man from Roscoff.

He is a regular at street markets around the South during the Roscoff onion season of August till April. You’ll find him at weekend markets in Surrey and French markets around the South up till Christmas.

Time was when Pascal toured towns and villages, with strings of onions on his bike, selling door to door, and even all those years ago we were regular buyers.

His market stall is a matter of Gallic delight — giant French garlic, Brittany shallots, Heirloom tomatoes, globe artichokes, Romanesco cauliflower a choice of Brittany vegetables and fruit from the south of France.
