L'arroser
The Lumière brothers were born in Besançon and we stumbled upon a lovely memorial to them. A reconstruction in bronze from the first ever fiction/comedy film, made in 1895 - L'Arroseur Arrosée. It is wonderfully detailed and depicts the gardener, with his hose, the boy, and the camera placed relative to the subject. The plaque on the wall is glass and is low contrast, not very readable on photo otherwise it would have been the blip for today.
There is a Jungle Run happening today, making moving around and dog walking quite difficult. Nell has been a real trouper despite her generally wobbly nature around crowds of strangers.
Refuelling arrangements have been successfully made so tomorrow we continue up river for a few days. The first hurdle will be the manual lock that lies a few metres from where I currently sit. Terrified? Yes! Then we have to find out how to refuel a boat. Then negotiate the tricky river section out of Besançon.
I already feel in need of a lie down.
