And so I went for a walk...to Thailand
Helen Keller was famously quoted: "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing!"
10 days leave and I'd narrowed my destination down to Far North Queensland (to visit places once lived), or North Western Australia (I like extremes). But then I pondered.....going somewhere you've been before does not constitute an adventure and even though North Western Australia is an adventure, I'd still be well within my confort zone.
Then another thought entered my head (thinking can be quite dangerous for me). A significant person (my friend I had dragged to NZ to jump off buildings after a similar comment was made) had made a comment to me in passing about how all of his female friends like elephants even though none have ever seen one outside of a zoo, therefore he inevitabley has to go to the zoo quite regularly.
Hmmm....I had 10 days, and Thailand has elephants and costs about the same to get too. Add to that, the fact that I hadn't been there, that I can't read or write the language, and that I would still be going North (even when I got to Bangkok - leave the south for the tourist mecca), and well guess what - that would be out of my comfort zone! (And my friend will never have to take me to the zoo!) When I checked there was a flight out that afternoon, so I went for a walk.....to Thailand!
