Navigating the 'Passe de Carentan'

The port and marina of Carentan are behind me, and the sea lock is to my left.  The sea lock only functions when the sea waters are high: 2 hours before high tides and three 3 hours after.

The river Douve disgorges at the left of this photo, the Vire from the right.  The sea canal disappearing into the distance follows a marked (and no doubt regularly dredged) route for 8 kms or more to the open sea.
