Mountjoy Square, Dublin
We had two destinations today: The later and much briefer one was this Georgian garden square, with a rich history. It has been the home of many of Dublin's most eminent people, including James Joyce and William Butler Yeats (to name just two). (Other images of the square are here.) Earlier we spent nearly four hours at the National Gallery of Ireland, where we saw an utterly fascinating exhibition of recently discovered drawings of exotic animals from Brazil by the 17th century Dutch artist Frans Post during his seven-year stay there. The show included over a half-dozen specimens of animals from the National Museums division of Natural History. More on the regular offerings of the Gallery, including its major Caravggio, are in this year-old blip. It was a satisfying day.
