A Wood duck of what?

Took this picture at our local little lake and came back and looked through all my bird books to see what it is. I have only even seen in once and that was in Bahrain at the local zoo. Well I couldn't find any info on it so got hold of a bird fundi and she passed on a link saying it's a wood duck and quite unusual to be spotted here?? I'm none the wiser but it is a beautiful duch with such brilliant markings.
