Quehanna Sunfire

With the very welcome arrival of some fall-like weather, my husband and I backpacked into the Quehanna Wild Area for the weekend. It was great to get out. There's nothing quite like spending a night in the back-country.

The overnight low was a few degrees above freezing. I awoke in my tent in the morning to see lines of pink in the sky, and as I was watching, the golden orb popped up over the horizon. Suddenly everything was lit up: fire in the sky, and fire down below.
