What a pity that unlike Jersey, Guernsey has no direct flights from Scotland. We would love to return again. Despite being a small island we found so many good walks and things of interest and people who were so friendly and helpful. The contrasts of the beauty of the gardens and old houses with the many foreboding military buildings of wartime were a reminder of a friend who was evacuated to England as a young child leaving her father to tend to his ill fated gardening business. The narrow country lanes with high earthen banks were reminiscent of Devon and Pembrokeshire and the calm blue sea reminded me of Scotland's Western Isles in sunshine. Butterflies like the Copper and fairly rare Silver studded blue together with others that are unfamiliar to me, made the cliff top walks even more enjoyable. All too soon it was time to leave and make a detour on my way home to see how the patient of two weeks ago is facing a very worrying future.
