A theatre this time

We left Bonnieux this morning, but did not travel very far. It is Gordon's birthday and he did have a rather fine detour planned, then he realised it was just too far out of our way and we made some other hasty plans. We decided to stay in Vaison-la-Romaine, which is a place we have only briefly visited and have wanted to return. The whole area here is lovely and I see why ValC returns each year.

Our change of plan meant that Gordon got to have lunch in Gigondas and, as the wine of the same name is his favourite, there was some tasting and buying went on.

Vaison-la-Romaine is France's largest archaeological site, so much of Roman times has been discovered there. There are Roman streets to walk down and this theatre. It was discovered, built into the hillside, and has been restored so it can be used today. We also went into the museum where there are many statues and so much else that has been discovered. There are some magnificent mosaics too. A fascinating place.
