Common Calamint

A rather damp trip out this morning to have a look at some areas of land owned by the Highways Agency that support species-rich limestone grassland which is in danger of disappearing because of rapidly encroaching scrub. A meeting has been arranged between the Langdyke Trust and the Highways Agency to see if there's any scope for volunteer involvement.

We parked on the former route of the A47, and were very pleased to sfind a very thriving population of Common Calamint along about 100m of the south-facing road edge. This plant is rare in VC32, and this location doesn't seem to have been formally recorded previously, so definitely a bonus for the day.
