Traveller’s Joy (Clematis vitalba) is common in many hedgerows in central and southern England but is found infrequently in Scotland although I know of two places locally where it grows.  Its distinctive feathery fruits give it an alternative name of Old Man’s Beard and they brighten up the roadsides on dull autumn and winter days.
