The four of us went for a short walk through woods and learned about some of the local plants and birds, including the many bald eagles that we kept seeing. We saw bear track but fortunately didn't see any bears but people are forbidden to take any food in the area. One of the speakers told us that a camper had no food except "space food" but had not realised that a bear's sense of smell is so acute that one was able to smell her peppermint toothpaste.
(Extra) Later we walked along the short Nugget Falls Trail to the lake beside the 13 mile long Meldenhall Glacier. It is one of 38 large glaciers that flow from the 1500 square mile expanse of snow and ice known as the Juneau Icefield.
