Visiting villages

today was catching up with a few of the many pretty villages in the area. The drive was punctuated - or perhaps punctured ho-ho - by a slow puncture requiring us to purchase two new tires. Somewhat amazingly for us it happened when garages were open and relatively nearby stockists had the relevant tyres so it only took an hour and a half out of the day.
Essentailly we visited four villages.
La Calverie - a huge Knight's Templar castle.
Nant - a village in the middle of nowhere.
La Couvertoiraide - another town fortified by the Knights' Templar that we first visited twenty years ago. Then we drove to the front gate and walked around in peace. Today pay to park miles away and fight through the crowds. Still a pretty place but...
St.Guilhme le Desert - a pretty village tumbling along a river to the Herault, capped by a monastery
Whilst the last of the villages was the easiest on the eye, for me the one  I'd go back to first was Nant. No pretensions, just a French rural village going about its business. Helped by the fact we had a decent lunch there too!
