Ladies who quilt

Well the heavens well and truly opened last night and by the time I had left the house at 9am, 37mm had fallen and this was to be followed by a further 10mm during the day. A group of the quilting ladies were due to set off to attend a workshop in Karelia House, near Aberfeldy. However we were slightly delayed as one of our number only just managed to get through from a neighbouring village because the River Earn had already burst its banks and roads were becoming flooded. We heard the noise of fire engines as we waited for her, presumably en route to try and help.

Rivers on the way to our destination were in spate but despite very large puddles we had a safe journey. The workshop was great fun, a wonderful indulgence to spend a whole day with fabric constructing a Christmas decoration. The blip shows the work room where 8 of us were happily ensconced and you can see from the surrounding walls that the place was packed with colourful goodies.

We had no phone signal while we were at the workshop - right in the middle of the countryside - but on our way home my friend had word from her husband that much of the village had been flooded, folk evacuated and their own garden and garage were sitting in nearly two feet of water. It is nothing on the scale of hurricanes and earthquakes but is still heartbreaking for those whose houses have been flooded. I wonder how many others have been affected by this particular deluge? It was ironic that we had seen a rainbow this afternoon, glowing brightly against a very navy blue sky.
