The Rain Came Down .........

......... and the flood came up.

Hellish morning here.

We woke to very heavy rain and very quickly the road in front of the house flooded. Usually a few hours after high tide the river level drops and the water on the road subsides. Not today. The water just kept rising and by mid-day we had our very own moat around the house.

In the last hour the water level has dropped a couple of inches and the moat is slowly disappearing. The last time I can remember it being this bad was the year my daughter was born, 14 years ago.

From what we can gather the Main Street in the village is in chaos as buses and delivery vans have become stranded. Hopefully the water level will go down quite a bit in the next few hours so that the school bus can get through.

The local firefighters are checking the houses along our road to see if anyone needs help.

May only be two o'clock but I don't care. A glass of wine has been poured and never tasted so good.

3pm - water subsiding but neighbour's house and our house have a few inches of water in foundations. No damage to interior. Phew!
