Cookery class
We are staying in a wonderful 200 year old house as part of a home stay. The house is beautiful, with polished teak floors. It has a lovely inner courtyard with luscious plants. We had the first storm of the trip last night, together with a power cut, so it was rather a hot night.
We had a lesson in making Sri Lankan curry, and enjoyed chopping vegetables, grinding coconuts and making paste. It was all cooked on a firewood oven. This is made of clay, with various pot sized spaces. Cooking rice is guaged by the time it takes for the wood to burn down. On our morning walk before breakfast I got leeched, and it took a while for the bleeding to stop.
