Nostalgia

The question was straightforward enough — who remembered the name of a particular bar in Southampton’s Ocean Village? But it set a wave of nostalgia in motion, not just for me but for Facebook followers as well.

Truth is I, like many others, not only recall Ocean Village as it was before the present wave of apartments, bars and restaurants took shape, but before it was known as Ocean village and was a working dock servicing cross Channel shipping routes, as it had done for 100years or more.

Yet in more recent times, the transfer of interests to shops, bars and restaurants, along with apartments, town houses, and office complexes brought a change of direction from ships and cargo sheds, and paved the way for the marina village as it is today.

I still cannot help feel a tinge of nostalgia though. Memories of boarding ferries in what is now the marina, and indeed people watching from the restaurants. Good for Sunday breakfasts too or sitting with a bowl of moules and a glass or two of wine of a lunchtime.
