Lunch

We went to Cambridge this morning as we were going to a lecture, in the Library, about DNA and Genealogy; this was 12 noon to 1500 hours. We had not realised that they stopped for an hour between the two lectures for lunch and as the café in the library is now closed I went to Marks and Spencer to get sandwiches for us; today’s picture is my lunch.

Prior to that I went to the “Three” shop to upgrade the minutes on the mobile telephone I use for students. I have to go back tomorrow as something has gone wrong with it!

After the lecture, which we left during the questions, we took a taxi to Premier Kitchens arriving with five minutes to spare before our appointment at 1530 hours. The designer is the one who came out, measured and produced a plan exactly as we wanted it in an hour last Wednesday. We were not sure we were going to buy a kitchen today, but there were some good discounts to be had. The appliances had extra discounts and there were various other discounts, as well as a hefty one if we booked to have it fitted at the end of September. The biggest discount was that they will pay the VAT on the kitchen, as you can see from the extra picture. Our biggest problem is that the old boiler has not been removed and replaced with the new one, which is to be fitted to the wall. However, the kitchen company can also do the boiler. We have not yet had a quotation from the plumber that our builder uses. He appears unreliable and does not answer emails nor did not turn up on Friday to “refresh” his memory. He originally said that he would be able to do the work in September and now our builder has told us that he is two weeks behind.

So the plumber has missed out, but he probably does not care and has more work than he wants. As to the other designers, seven to ten days to make a plan is laughable and I doubt she could compete especially with the VAT being paid for by the company.

We were going to get a taxi back to the Park and Ride, but the kitchen designer was about to go home so took us in his car saving about £20 on a taxi fare; not much in the grand scheme of things, but a little bonus, nonetheless.
