Sossusvlei Sand Dunes Namibia
We set off early for Sossusvlei with the stars still in the sky and sun rising as we drove along the road. I’d never seen the sun come up on my birthday before so this was incredibly special.
Sossusvlei was incredible and we arrived there just after 8am. We didn’t climb the highest sand dune as unfortunately I’m carrying an injury but what we did was just breathtaking.
By the time we left a couple of hours later it was starting to get very warm.
We were heading for the next part of my birthday, a desert campsite. The journey there was on ‘C’ roads which even in a Land Rover were pretty hairy... so much so we shredded a tyre! It was quite scary and exciting at the same time, we were in the middle of no where with no mobile signal... not one to tell our mums at the time.
Once at the campsite we checked in got back to the Land Rover and found we had puncture no 2... this one looked repairable! Job for the next day. The campsite didn’t disappoint and we sat with a wonderful view, including a rather spectacular sunset, a braai and a nice bottle of wine.
A perfect birthday in a special place!
