An Ex Soakaway
Diary
Day 2 was an even more stressful day by a mega amount. Having removed the old patio, it revealed a sodden area of ground that must have been one of the soakaways. the area was excavated to find out more and to remove this soil as you couldn't use it. I agreed that a new structured soakaway with crates could be built to take the rainwater from the side and back of the bungalow and the double garage. It is big and mega expensive, but has to be done. I'd gone with this company knowing they'd check on the soakaway(s) and could build a new one if needed. On Thursday he'll test the one for the front of the house so I'm keeping everything crossed that that one won't need replacing, although I now understand that they only last up to 20 years. So a very bad day, but the problem was there so it's better to be identified and resolved.
I'm writing this on Wed and the guys made good progress with the new soakaway. pipework and silt traps.
