Day 14

Ollie was fine in the night, but to be on the safe side we decided to still go for the shorter ferry crossing.  Unfortunately we are so programmed that on leaving Shelagh's we go to Aberdeen, that we got up to Dundee before we realised it!

A bit of a detour with the aid of Google maps, and we were back on track for Gills Bay, up near John o' Groats.  Travelling on a Sunday morning is so quiet, and just being up here, rather further south, makes the driving so much more relaxed.  At times there was no other car in sight, in front or behind, in any direction!

We had lots of short breaks to stretch our legs and let Ollie have a wander about.  He seems a good bit  better today, poor old boy.  We stopped for a bite of lunch at the White Cottage tea rooms in North Kessock, a favourite spot.  It was lovely and sunny, we sat outside, watching the boats, Ollie in the shade under the table, before setting off again.

Before we got to the boat we called in at Lybster harbour.  The visitor centre is excellent.  We have never been south in the summer before, it always seems such a shame to leave Orkney at this time of year, so we usually come down when things like little museums and visitor centres etc are closed!  A real treat to be able to spend time exploring this one, and the boat shed too.  Terrific weather, hot and sunny!

Lots of friends on the ferry, a good chance to catch up with folk, before getting home by 8.30pm. It's been a great trip. we've seen so many lovely and interesting places,  had a super time but it's so good to be back too!
