Back blip - A great day in North Yorkshire. Started by exploring Pickering castle, well worth a visit, and then to the railway workshops and saw a Victorian dining car being renovated. See extras! The attention to detail and the care being taken by the volunteers was wonderful to see. You could see the love they had for their work. Terrific to see the steam trains but very noisy for a poor old dog!
While we were in Pickering we went to the old church to see the wonderful medieval wall paintings. Dogs were welcome too, with water provided - which was handy as it was a really hot day and we couldn't have left Ollie in the van.
Onward to Rievaulx Abbey! Again, well worth a visit, a huge area to explore, but perhaps when the kids are back at school if you want some peace and quiet while you wander round . . . . !
A night on the moors above Hawnby, surrounded by sheep, with fruit cake and hot chocolate for supper!
