A Friend from across the Pond

About 15 years ago, His Lordship and I had a holiday in Key West where we met a lady from Maine staying in the same B&B who was attending a writers’ conference in the town. Since then we have kept in touch and been delighted with poetry she sends us at Christmas.

Today she was passing through Edinburgh before getting a National Trust for Scotland cruise round the west of the British Isles taking in some of Ireland too.

I collected her from her hotel and we went for breakfast to Contini’s in George Street. It is 4years since we met face to face, so you can imagine how the tongues wagged. She has had a few scary years with cancer but is back to rude health and off on her solo adventure visiting parts I have never visited -St Kilda, Cornwall and the Scilly Isles for a start.
I have found that all our American friends have seen more of these Islands than have I which makes me feel as if I should get out a bit more.

More Victoria plums have found their way to the Dower House from Cullen. It’s hard not to gorge on them when they are so ripe and delicious.
