Archie helps

The chaps came to clean the woodfire flue this morning, in anticipation of autumn nights. I don’t think we did it last year, as I didn’t think it needed it - there wasn’t much soot came out.

But this time, they did a much more thorough job. They lifted the fire out, went up on the roof, fixed one of the heat tiles that had come loose - they spent more than a couple of hours here, and left the room spotless. And it was the same price as two years ago.

Archie was afraid of the big black sweep's brush head on the floor, and was growling at it, when JR accidentally stood on the other end of it, causing it to move suddenly, giving Archie a Big Fright.

JR took Archie out for a big walk while I looked after the chaps and took them up to the roof. Well, I got the key for the roof and left them to it.

In the afternoon, the weather not being good enough to hang out the sofa covers (though hopefully this week, with NO rain on the horizon!) we watched last night's recorded Military Tattoo. What a spectacle, as usual. No wonder it attracts over 220,000 spectators each year.

Bake Off returns tonight. At least one of us is quite excited...
