Lifeboat Day
It's 'Lifeboat Day' in St Ives today. But have I been taken into town to join in with everything that is going on?......................... I have not! Ann said, 'Molly, it will be really busy in town and you will not like it. You will be bumping into people's legs and there will be far too many people around for you to be Blipped beside the lifeboat. We will go to the beach at Hayle instead and you can have a good run about.'
Sooooooo............................ we went to the beach at Hayle and just look what I spotted................ the life guards quad bike. Chasing the life guards quad bike is one of my favourite activities.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the life guard. Boohooo! His quad bike was parked, with his dingy behind, and a flag saying it was dangerous to go into the sea. I'd already been in the sea but not in the dangerous bit.
I searched and searched for the life guard but I couldn't find him............................ So there was no chasing life guards, on their quad bikes, for me today.
…............And no supporting the 'St Ives Lifeboat' either. …..........But Ann does put money into the charity boxes around town and she always buys 'lifeboat' Xmas Cards.
Teeny weeny 'rant' coming up............................. And this isn't necessarily a 'rant' about the lifeboat service. This is a 'rant' about charities in general............................
…..............The last time I went for a play on Perranporth Beach, Ann & her friend, were accosted by people wanting donations for the RNLI. It's a very good cause so Ann & her friend were more than happy to put a few pounds into their collecting tin. They didn't have a 'collecting tin'. They did however, have a really 'hard sell technique' and tried to get them to sign up to donating by 'direct debit' every month. Needless to say, Ann & her friend, just walked away. So nothing was donated because they didn't have a collecting tin.
Not good! Personally, Ann doesn't think that the RNLI should be a charity. It saves hundreds of lives a year and the volunteer crew put their own lives at risk every time they go out on a shout.
However, the last thing people want is pushy salespeople trying to sign them up to monthly direct debits.
OK 'rant' over!
