Riad Assakina, Marrakech
It was very exciting getting to our Riad in Marrakech. There were many roads that were only wide enough to get a car through and donkeys and carts and motorbikes all had to reverse or squeeze into the sides of the roads to allow us to get through. The Riad was absolutely beautiful built in traditional style so that the courtyard was open to the night sky. We were greeted very warmly by Grant and Michelle, who told us all about the history of the Riad which they had completely rebuilt five years ago. As the alleyway to the front and only door was very narrow all the construction materials had to be conveyed by donkey and cart. Michelle is an interior designer by profession and it was clearly evident that her good taste and luxurious touches were in every part of the Riad.
This view is looking down on to the central courtyard and pool from our balcony. The rooftop terrace looked stunning too.
Mint tea and pastries on arrival followed by tapas and we were ready for a nights sleep. Roll on tomorrow and exploring this amazing city.
